Leather Belt Care Tips

1. Make Sure It Fits You

The first step of effective leather belt care comes before you even make a purchase. Ahead of investing in a belt, make sure you know your belt size.

2. Avoid heat and humidity

The place where you store your belt is important even though if you never thought about it before. The designated place shouldn't be damp or humid because it will damage your leather belt. When the humidity level creeps above 50%, the excess water vapor in the air can seep into the leather’s pores, fostering the formation of mold and mildew. Leather is also susceptible to damage in hot areas, where it can dry out and even crack. It is especially important that if you live in these environments to apply a good quality leather conditioner on a regular basis (once or twice a year).

3. Apply conditioner

This might be the most important part of caring for our leather belts. Applying leather conditioning products helps to keep our belts healthy and away from dryness and cracks. Conditioners contain moisture and other essential ingredients that protect the leather from drying and help to deter dirt. The way to apply these conditioners is in small portions. Use a small amount in a dry cloth and rub it all over the belt, covering both sides. Then let your belt air-dry. Remember to condition your belt in moderation because if you do it too often, you risk saturating it.

4. Keep it dry

Leather and water are not the best of friends. If your belt gets wet, we’d recommend blotting it with a towel and letting it dry naturally. Hang your belt in an open area at room temperature, leaving it to air dry don’t try to accelerate the drying process with hairdryers or other heat sources, as this could leave your belt hard and brittle.

5. Clean your belt

Remember to give regular attention to your leather belts to protect them and also to keep them free of any smell. Neglecting simple maintenance of your belt can ruin its charm and even result in damage. To clean your belt, simply wipe it down with a lukewarm damp cloth. However, keeping in mind the acrimonious relationship between leather and water, be sure not to saturate the cloth or you risk damaging your bel.
