Learn How to Make Your Leather Gloves Waterproof in 4 Steps

Leather gloves are a necessity when winter arrives or if you work maybe outdoors with a cold weather. However you look at it, leather gloves have become a necessity through the years but also have become part of your clothing in every season and every life event. If you don't believe us then look at how many brides are getting married while wearing gloves with their wedding gown. You might have wonder what can you do to protect them and more if you've invested in some real leather gloves right?. For example, let's say you have bought an Alpamayo Peccary Leather glove from our store and you want to keep it protected when you go skiing, well, we are going to tell you what you can do to keep them looking fantastic for a long time. As you know, full grain leather gloves are comfortable, long lasting and they can keep you really warm. But if you want them to keep you company for life you have to take care of them and one of the simplest but really important rule is to avoid getting them soaked. To avoid this, you need to buy a good waterproof wax like Nikwax Waterproofing wax for leather and apply it.

Follow this 4 steps to apply the waterproof wax

  1. Clean your leather gloves with a damp cloth if they are dirty or have dust on them. Do not machine wash your gloves EVER.
  2. Squeeze a bit of the wax on your leather gloves (imagine a Hershey's kiss size and that's the amount per glove)
  3. Rub the wax into the leather gloves with special attention to the seams or if you have lined leather gloves then to those too. Let it sit for a few minutes and then remove the excess with a damp cloth.
  4. Let them dry naturally. Do not wring the gloves.
Be careful when using any waterproof wax because is known that they can darken and tint particularly light-colored gloves. As with every other leather treatment we always need to be careful and read all the instructions in the products. If you can test it on maybe a small portion of your leather before using it in your whole piece then do it!. NOTE: If you take care of your leather gloves they could serve you for 10 years or more. Fantastic right?.
